What Is Kidnap?
Kidnapping is the taking of someone without their consent, including by force or fraud, with no valid legal reason.
In a kidnapping case, the victim is moved to a different location to be held there, while in a false imprisonment case, they are deprived of their liberty at a particular location.
Kidnapping could be followed by false imprisonment, in which case two offences are committed.
Kidnapping could be for a relatively short period of time, for example, taking someone to a cash machine and forcing them to withdraw money.
